Stainless steel screws are used for visible work and for wood species that do not go well with the zinc post-treatment. With galvanized screws, a reaction occurs due to the presence of the tannic acid in the wood. This tannic acid causes a black deposit on the wood around the screw and subsequently also affects the zinc layer. Eventually the protection will disappear causing the screw to rust, with the risk of failure.
Stainless steel screws are not affected by this tannic acid and can be used without any problem for fastening hardwood, garden wood, facade cladding and decking
